Red light therapy is an efficient, safe, and non-invasive way of promoting healing and reducing pain and inflammation. It is similar to acupuncture but without the needles. The red light torch (which is a specific wavelength of red light) is applied to areas of concern such as muscle soreness or wounds, or to acupoints on the horse’s body to promote the body’s immune responses and healing abilities, and to produce a therapeutic effect. Ideal for a number of conditions & soft tissue injuries.
Pre-Event Sports Massage is performed prior to competition or intense work to prepare the body for athletic activity. The techniques employed warm up the muscles (improving stretch and recoil), stimulate the circulatory system, release endorphins, relieve any tightness in the body, and loosen joints.
Doing a pre-event massage reduces the chance of injury during competition and helps with the horse’s endurance. Massage treatment includes stretching.
Performed after a competition or workout to flush toxins, reduce the build-up of lactic acid, prevent stiffness and soreness, and return muscle tone to a relaxed state. Includes passive stretching.
The post event massage is best done when the horse has settled down a bit following the event; when the heart rate, temperature and respiratory rate have returned to normal levels; and prior to being loaded onto a float for the journey home.
